Presented by: Jessie Markovich, DVM, DACVIM, DACVN
Enteral nutrition has been demonstrated to play a positive prognostic role in dogs and cats with sepsis, pancreatitis, hepatic disease, and parvoviral enteritis. The gastrointestinal tract receives nutrition from the lumen, and early enteral feeding in humans and dogs has been demonstrated to prevent enterocyte atrophy allowing improved gastrointestinal tract function, thus benefiting the health and immune response of the patient. This talk covers some tricks and tips with feeding tubes and specific dietary management needed to optimize nutritional care.
